WiiPlayer was designed as a better (unofficial) way to browse and view the BBC iPlayer content on the Wii. Written in PHP and designed utilising CSS/HTML optimised for the Wii Opera browser.
WiiPlayer was an alternative way to view the BBC iPlayer content on the Wii. For those of you not familiar with the BBC iPlayer, it's a streaming service from the BBC allowing you to watch any shows screened on the BBC in the last seven days.

Why Create It?
When the BBC originally added Wii browser support to their iPlayer service, navigation and usability was severely hindered by the restrictive viewing resolution and text rendering of the Wii browser. WiiPlayer was designed as a better way to browse and view the iPlayer content on your Wii.
How Did It Work?
It automatically scraped the program information from the existing iPlayer website and cached it. When a user visited WiiPlayer it would use this cached information to show the iPlayer content within a more Wii userfriendly GUI.
How Do I Access It?
Originally the site was accessed by visiting the url http://defaced.co.uk/wiiplayer from the internet browser on the Wii. Though WiiPlayer is now no longer online.
Why Does It No Longer Work?
Because the BBC offered no official API for their iPlayer service it had to manually scrape their website, this meant when they altered their layout slightly WiiPlayer would need updating. Unfortunately I no longer have the time to do this, although recently the BBC has launched an official iPlayer 'channel' for the Wii which addresses all previous usability and navigation issues.
